What do I have to do to join?

Must be 18 years or older

Members must carry their own medical insurance

 

Is Experience Necessary?

-experience is not necessary to join.

 

Will there be tryouts?

Yes, each member will go through a 10 week training process known as a Fresh Meat cycle. Through this training you will learn the basic skills required to play roller derby. At the end of the Fresh Meat cycle, skaters will be required to pass written and skills assessments before they can be placed on the team roster. How much time will I have to devote to the league?

We currently practice 2 nights per week. However, we do participate in community service projects and social events. Members are required to attend 75% of all practices, scrimmages, games, team meetings, and other events to remain in good standing.

 

Do I need to purchase gear?

Yes. Skaters are required to have the following gear before they can skate:

-helmet

-mouthguard

-wrist guards

-knee pads

-elbow pads

Our corporate sponsors sell all these items at a 10% discount, please inquire with a league officer for the code.

Will I have to pay monthly dues or fees?

Yes, monthly dues are $50.00 per month, which pays for our practice venue and facility rental fees.

 

Where is practice held?

We currently practice at Ashland Skateland, 516 N. Washington Hwy, Ashland, VA 23005. Monday and Thursday nights 8:30pm to 10:30pm

 

I do not want to skate, is there another way to join?

We are always looking for volunteers (referees, coaches, and non-skating officials) to help out with our league. Contact us for more information, we will be happy to work with you!
